Wood Defect Recognition: A Comparative Study

چکیده
The quality of a board or a sheet of veneer determines its potential uses and the price for the sawmills. Automatic detection of the defects in the wood surface and grading of the products is one of the key interest areas in the mechanical wood industry. In this paper two methods for knot recognition are reviewed and compared. The rst method is based on centiles of color histograms and some knowledge of the location of the knot on the board. The second technique is based on general shape related features and uses no explicit information of location.
